Aplastic Anemia Diagnosis

Peripheral blood smear will reveal anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia
Bone marrow aspirate reveals reduced cellularity with fat spaces occupying > 75% of the marrow
The workup of aplastic anemia should also include:
ANA
LFTs
Appropriate virul serologies
B12 and folate levels
Ham test for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria
Diepoxybutane incubation tests for chromosomal breakage analysis of peripheral blood lymphocytes (Fanconi anemia)
Severe disease is defined by the presence of two of the following signs for > 2 weeks: absolute neutrophil count < 500, platelet count < 20,000, or reticulocyte count < 1%
