Acne Vulgaris Signs / Symptoms

Open comedones (blackheads): Obstruction at the mouth of the follicle
Closed comedones (whiteheads): Obstruction at the neck of the follicle, resulting in a buildup of stratum corneum cells beneath the epidermis and cyst formation
Inflammatory lesions occur upon lysis of cysts into the dermis
In severe cases, large pustules and scaring may occur
Areas affected are those with increased concentrations of sebaceous glands (i.e., face, neck, chest, and back)
